Vector Marketing Canada : My Home

I don’t know about any of you, but I have always seen my friends do mediocre things, but, for myself, I have always wanted more. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one of my friends that wanted more though - I’m sure that’s what a lot of people want. More for themselves. More of a challenge, more money, more excitement, more fun. The thing is – not very many people go after it and make it happen. So who knew that when my mom told me that I needed to get a ‘real job’ for the summer, that I’d find the job that would give me that ‘more’ I had been looking for.

Being in a Vector Marketing Canada office as a sales rep is probably the most fun job you could ask for. When most of my friends were coming home from work exhausted, I was coming home invigorated. When my friends were coming home from work complaining, I was coming home excited for my next day. That was the first thing Vector taught me. It completely changed the way I think about work. Don’t get me wrong, I knew work was work – hard, long, etc. – however, I had learnt that work could be FUN!

Setting appointments, working with customers, even sales – that was all completely new to me! For once though, I was completely autonomous to work at my own pace. Usually autonomy for me means that I throw my pajamas on and do absolutely nothing for the evening. Instead however, Vector showed me a reason to be useful with my time. The best part was, I started working because I wanted to, not because I had to, all because I had a goal driving me forward. That’s the second thing Vector taught me: how to set and achieve goals.

When I started feeling fulfilled in my Vector sales rep position, I wondered what my next step would be, what else I could challenge myself with. Naturally, I opened my first Vector office as a Branch Manager. I could take everything I had learnt as a sales rep, and apply it to my own office. My reason for running an office was to share this great opportunity to as many people as I could, and make sure they had as much fun as I did as a rep. My office consisted of team nights at restaurants, playing Jenga, pizza parties, playing Kerplunk, ultimate Frisbee, team pool parties and even pancake parties. I’m not sure who had more fun, my reps or me. Our team knew how to have fun, but they also knew how to work! We won many division contests, challenge weeks and push weeks (where offices compete against other offices). That’s the third thing Vector taught me: to inspire and motivate people by being completely true to myself. I didn’t have to be this big, bad manager that so many managers in other businesses are – I could still be my wacky, fun-loving self and help people achieve what they wanted out of the job.

The more time I spend with the company, the more I realize how much I love it. It’s taken me a while to figure out what I truly love most about what the company has taught me (because there are so many things) but when it comes down to it, Vector has taught me what ‘home’ feels like. Whether or not I had known what I got myself into in the beginning, I realized quickly that it sure feels like home.

I love the product, I love the program, and above all else, I love the people. Having unrelenting positivity, motivation and support from my co-workers is the absolute best feeling in the world! I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else and I can’t wait for what I’m fortunate enough to continue to learn from Vector in the future and to continue to make it happen!
